Trucks with emission standardization of Euro 4 emission are starting to be marketed by brand holders. However, the government instead asked industry players to immediately export these products.
Several automotive industry manufacturers have started to launch new trucks with Euro 4 emission standards. They are encouraged to increase local components or the level of domestic content (TKDN) and exports.
The Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier, said that with the increase in TKDN, these components could become various variants of the truck production process in the country.
"So we push on. It means that the added value is in Indonesia,” he said when met.
Starting from there, Taufiek explained that he hopes that Indonesia can become the hub for the Euro 4 truck industry in Asean.
That way, the country's industry is able to support the needs of neighboring countries. “We also encourage industry players to export because other countries are also implementing green [environmentally friendly diesel vehicles]. It can be inline with what is made in Indonesia,” he explained.
Gradually, Taufiek explained that the government would follow global trends regarding environmentally friendly vehicles.
The government will also create superior human resources. As a result, the workforce will be skilled and the products of small and medium industries can be absorbed.
“What is important for us is that we can be central. For these types of vehicles, we can start as a hub for the Asean market. We are the best in Asean, then Asia, then internationally," he explained.
For four-wheeled vehicles or more with diesel engines, the government began implementing the Euro 4 emission standard in April. At least some companies have issued products with these provisions.
The latest and launched today is the Mercedes-Benz Axor Euro 4. This product is the first vehicle from the European brand to introduce a truck with Euro 4 standards.
