Component Prices Soared, Astra Honda Motor Raised Prices?

Astra Honda Motor (AHM) will not increase the selling price of its products. This is because the company has made price adjustments some time ago.


The soaring price of components and energy will not only have an impact on the car industry, but also motorcycles. Even so, this does not necessarily make PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) increase the selling price of its products.

General Manager of Corporate Communication of AHM Ahmad Muhibbuddin said that his company would not increase the price of motorcycles yet. This is because the company has made price adjustments some time ago.

" So far , we don't have any plans to make adjustments because we recently made adjustments due to the 11 percent increase in VAT [value added tax] and fuel," said the man who is familiarly called Muhib to The Newbie last weekend. 

Meanwhile, in terms of company performance, Muhib explained that AHM's domestic sales in April were 329,825 units

"[Sales in April 2022] fell by 2.3 percent compared to March 2022 [which totaled] 337,523 units and decreased by 6.7 percent compared to April 2021 [which totaled] 353,669 units," he explained.

Throughout 2022 to April or year to date (ytd), Honda motorcycle sales reached 1,281,732 units. The realization fell 5.86 percent from the same period last year as much as 1,361,475. 

Muhib added, apart from the increase in the price of semiconductor components such as chips, one of the obstacles faced by AHM was the short working day in April 2022. The short working day also suppressed the company's sales.

"We are trying to manage ," he explained.

Meanwhile, Astra Honda Motor was recorded to have contributed group dividends to PT Astra International Tbk. (ASII) of IDR 3.03 trillion in 2021. 

The dividend deposit increased by 37.75 percent compared to the same period the previous year of Rp.2.180 trillion.

Based on the company's financial statements in 2021, AHM's total net income last year was around Rp. 73.36 trillion. With this performance, AHM reaped 35.03 percent growth compared to Rp54.33 trillion in total net income in 2020.

On the other hand, if you take into account total net income and unit sales volume in 2021, the average price of AHM two-wheeled bicycles is around Rp. 18.7 million per unit, considering that sales volume reached 3.9 million units.
