Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan admitted that he offered Elon Musk to invest in the North Kalimantan (Kaltara) area which is rich in mining goods. Kaltara's position is also close to the National Capital Region (IKN) of the Archipelago.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that new industries will develop in North Kalimantan (Kaltara). The area was also offered to the CEO of Tesla Inc. Elon Musk .
“I met Elon Musk and this one we offer. They have sent a team here and they are very satisfied with this prospect," he said in a virtual speech at the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement, Monday (23/5/2022).
Luhut explained that currently the government is still in the negotiation stage with Elon. According to him, it is not easy.
Regarding the Kaltara industrial area, Luhut added, it is currently in the construction process. There, he said there would be the largest petrochemical industry in the world that could produce 4x16 million tons.
Then there is electronic alumina which can produce 3 million tons, iron and steel 5 million tons, new energy battery 265 GWH, and industry and polycristalline silicon 1.4 million tons. This prospect is called Luhut which makes Elon satisfied.
“So this Kaltara actually invests in the next 5 to 7 years reaching US$132 billion. This is the distance from IKN [Capital of the Archipelago] 180 Km. So, we will connect it," he explained.
Previously, the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that Elon Musk would invest in Indonesia. The owner of this Tesla electric car will invest in two sectors.
“He will enter into two major investments. First the car battery ecosystem. The two cars," he told a virtual press conference.
Bahlil explained that the timing of Tesla's investment realization had yet to be announced. Likewise with the nominal that will enter Indonesia.
The reason is that the signing of the cooperation has not been done. Even so, he confirmed that it would happen this year.
