Based on records, Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, and Mitsubishi are ready to make large investments until 2024 to develop hybrid cars.
Sales of hybrid that combine the performance of two engines, namely gasoline and electricity, are still not widely available in Indonesia. Toyota still dominates the market by holding two-thirds of the market volume.
Based on documents owned by The Newbie News, Japanese manufacturers will speed up HEV production until 2024. The investment commitments come from Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, and Mitsubishi.
Toyota has an additional investment commitment of around IDR 28.3 trillion for the localization of five HEV and PHEV models including the Innova HEV version, while Suzuki has an additional investment of IDR 1.2 trillion for the Ertiga and XL7 Hybrids.
Furthermore, Honda is committed to investing in fresh funds of IDR 5.2 trillion until 2024 which will be used to develop the Brio and BRV HEV models. In addition, there is still Mitsubishi that has again added investment of up to Rp. 11.2 trillion, for the Xpander HEV and the localization of two new models in Indonesia.
Of all the products, the most widely heard is the readiness to launch the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid and Innova Hybrid. Both are projected to slide this year.
Quoted from data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), sales of hybrid vehicles (HEV) in April were 192 units. The realization fell 31.9 percent from April last year as many as 282 units.
Meanwhile, compared to March, sales of hybrid cars also fell 5.89 percent. There sold 204 units.
If accumulated throughout 2022 to April, sales of 846 units. This figure is down 26.93 percent from the same period last year with a total of 1,158 cars.
General Chairperson of Gaikindo Yohannes Nangoi said that the portion of hybrid car sales to all vehicles was relatively small.
"Because the market is very specific. There are people who want to try, yes he tried. But the market has not been read," he said when contacted on Monday (23/5/2022).
Still from Gaikindo's data, there are not many hybrid car manufacturers. There are only four agents holding brands of HEV marketers, namely Lexus, BMW, Nissan, and Toyota.
Toyota dominates the market by relying on four types of hybrid car models. Of the total vehicle sales of 192 units in April, 161 came from Toyota.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) Corporate Affairs Director Bob Azam explained that his company has not yet assessed hybrid car sales.
"We will evaluate it later in the second semester of 2022," he explained.
