The rain of goals occurred when Manchester City hosted Leicester City in the 19th week of the English Premier League or boxing day at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (12/26/21) night WIB.
Nine-goal drama was presented in that match and the hosts won 6-3 over the Foxes. The result made The Citizens firmly at the top of the Premier League standings with 47 points.
Kevin De Bruyne opened the hosts' taps when the game had only been running for five minutes. Getting Fernandinho's pass, De Bruyne calmly outwit a number of Leicester City players before opening fire into the corner of Kasper Schmeichel's goal.
Manchester City doubled the score in the 14th minute. Starting from a corner kick situation, defender Aymeric Laporte was dropped by Youri Tielemans in the forbidden box.
Referee Chris Kavanagh initially did not consider a foul. However, after viewing the video via the Video Assistant Referee ( VAR ) a penalty was awarded to Manchester City. Riyad Mahrez, who was appointed as the executor, successfully carried out his duties.
In the 21st minute, the hosts widened the distance after it was Iklay Gundogan's turn to list his name on the scoreboard.
Only three minutes later, again Manchester City after Raheem Sterling was dropped by Tielemans. Sterling who took a 12-past shot successfully carried out the task.
Leicester City had bounced back in the second half after scoring three goals in a row through James Maddison in the 55th minute, Ademola Lookman in the 59th minute and Kelechi Iheanacho in the 65th minute.
Instead of equalizing the score, Manchester City returned to Leicester City who added two more goals through headers from Aymeric Laporte in the 69th minute and Raheem Sterling in the 87th minute. The score 6-3 lasted until the game broke up.
