Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Friday (9/9) early morning WIB. England mourns, will the Premier League be postponed for a while?
Reported by AFP, Friday (9/9/2022), the news was reported by Buckingham Palace. Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96 years.
"The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral Palace this afternoon (UK local time on Thursday (8/9)-ed)," said a statement from Buckingham Palace.
Reporting from the Daily Star, Britain is mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Next comes the question, how is the sporting event in England for the time being, will it continue or be postponed?
Of course, the UK will follow protocol for the Queen's funeral, including a 12-day period of national mourning. Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) said it would soon make a decision, including for the Premier League.
DCMS confirmed that if any sporting events were scheduled to take place on the day of the Queen's funeral, they would all be cancelled.
DCMS hopes that the Premier League and its clubs until the players are asked to honor the departure of Queen Elizabeth II. Several Premier League have also expressed their condolences.
