Hugo Houle won the 16th stage of the Tour de France which covered a distance of 178.5 km from Carcassonn, Tuesday local time. He won his first title at this event in his 12-year career as a professional.
Hugo Houle became the first Canadian cyclist to win the world's largest cycling stage in 34 years. He succeeded Steve Bauer who won the first stage of the 1988 Tour at Machecoul.
French cyclist Valentin Madouas finished second for the Groupama-FDJ team, while Houle's compatriot Michael Woods finished third.
Woods and Houle both race for the Premier Tech team from Israel.
Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard retained the yellow jersey as a sign of the overall standings.

Hugo Houle, 31, dedicated his maiden Tour de France win to his late brother, Pierrick, who died in a hit-and-run aged eight in 2012.
He admitted that he always watched the Tour de France with his younger brother on television. "My brother was the victim of a hit-and-run in a small village where we live. At eight o'clock at night he ran and never came back," said Houle, who was on the verge of tears.
"We went looking and found him three hours later. They did a heart massage. I grabbed his hand and I saw blood running from his ears and nose. It left a big hole in my life."
"It was my dream to win a stage in his honor. Crazy emotions, even better because I had time to enjoy them."
"If I had to write down a dream about how I want to win the stage, this is the scenario I would write."
