The Governor of West Java (Jabar) Ridwan Kamil is grateful, after the body of his eldest son Eril was found by Swiss police.
Ridwan Kamil, who recently returned to Switzerland, shared his story when he saw the body of his beloved son in one piece.
"Masha Allah, even though 14 days have passed, the body is still intact, complete, not missing anything," said Ridwan Kamil in uploading reels to his Instagram account, Friday (10/6/2022).
According to Ridwan Kamil, Eril's body when found with his face turned to the right and emitted a fragrant aroma like eucalyptus.
Eril's body was found on the 14th day of the search after he was declared missing last Thursday (26/5/2022).
The question is, why for 14 days in the water of the Aare river, Eril's body was still intact?
Keep in mind that Eril died while swimming in the Aare river, Switzerland, when the weather there was experiencing a shift to spring.
Apparently, the water in the river Aare, Bern, Switzerland is still in the cold category.
Moreover, Ridwan Kamil himself once explained that a lot of the Aare river water comes from melted snow which of course is very cold.
In contrast to the origin of river water in Indonesia, which comes from springs.
At that time, the water temperature of the Aare River was still fairly cold, at 16 degrees Celsius with a fairly strong current.
Indonesian Youtuber Syarif Zapata, who visited the Aare river directly after the incident, said that the temperature of the water was like water from a refrigerator.
Now scientifically, that's what most likely made Eril's body still intact, even though it had been in the water for 14 days.
Reporting from the science site ScienceFocus, the durability of corpses submerged in water depends on the temperature of the water.
In cold water, the activity of the bacteria that causes the body to become bloated with gas, may be very slow.
Because the corpse bloats slowly, the corpse will stay at the bottom longer.
Cold water also promotes adipocere formation. It is a waxy and soapy substance that forms from fat in the body, which partially protects the body from decay.
In some cases, bodies recovered from waters below 7°C are almost completely intact even after a few weeks in the water, then after five years have become recognizable skeletons.
Well, it's a different story if it happens in tropical waters.
The body will usually float to the surface after three or four days, exposing it to seabirds and the pounding of the waves.
