Response from Panpel Indonesia Masters regarding the Oversleeping Judge Incident: That's Human Error

Director of the Indonesia Masters , Mimi Irawan, gave a response regarding the incident of the linesman falling asleep in the middle of the Lakhsya Sen (India) vs Hans-Kristian Vittinghus (Denmark) match.

The incident occurred precisely in the first round or the big 32 of the 2022 Indonesia Masters , Wednesday (8/6/2022).

While playing, Vittinghus saw that a linesman had fallen asleep.

Vittinghus then tried to inform umpire (referee) on duty about the incident. After speaking to the referee, the game resumed.

The first and second days of the 2022 Indonesia Masters played 55 matches which were divided into three fields.

Based on the schedule, the first and second days of the 2022 Indonesia Masters will start at 09.00 am WIB.

The series of matches on the first and second days usually ends at 21.00 WIB or 12 hours running non-stop.

Quoted from BWF Score, the Lakhsya Sen vs Vittinghus match ended on Wednesday 16.26 pm WIB. Sen came out as the winner with a score of 21-10 and 21-18.

After the match ended, Vittinghus uploaded his protest on Twitter along with uploading a photo of the leading referee.

In the upload, Vittinghus explained that he protested to the referee about the linesman sleeping.

Regardless, he understood the condition of the linesman who could fall asleep because the match was so busy.

However, the 36-year-old badminton player suggested changing the match equipment if he fell asleep.

Regarding the incident where the linesman fell asleep, Mimi Irawan, representing the Indonesia Masters opened his voice.

He confirmed the incident and said it was a human error.

"The match between Vittinghus and Lakhsya Sen was fun, coincidentally, you know what time it is," said Mimi Irawan in an interview video uploaded to the BolaSport.com YouTube channel, Friday (10/6/2022).

"That's why I said yesterday, if possible, don't go over midnight . Yesterday a lot of people were moved. If everyone demands on field 1, it might be finished at 2 or 3 (morning)," he said.

"Well, it's a pity, the line judge is also a human. Then, the line judge when the ball went out , but the first time he said he didn't see it. Then, the second time he said it was out, so it was inconsistent," he said.

Mimi Irawan then said that his party and the linesman had apologized for the incident.

However, the Panpel and PBSI were reluctant to respond to Vittinghus' tweet on Twitter.

"We've apologized about it, but because of the existence of social media, it's legal for Vittinghus to write the story," he continued.

"We did not respond because we have apologized. That means, there is no real problem," he said.

"I also didn't think (the line judge slept), but we can also be tired. Then, someone said because he drank, it shouldn't be with me. So, there's no need to exaggerate," he added.

"Wherever it can happen, it's normal, it's called a human. It doesn't mean self-defense," he said.

Finally, Mimi Irawan said that the linesman had been given a warning.

He also reiterated that the incident was a human thing.

"But, the line judge finished with me, I have been reprimanded. The lines judge has apologized to the athlete. At that time the referee called, and was notified," he said.

"Actually, after the match, it was clear . But, there must be a sense of irritability, now this is what all humans must have," he said.

"But, the big committee did not respond, PBSI did not respond because we feel that this is normal, because of human error ," he emphasized.
