CPO Exports Open Tomorrow, Bulk Cooking Oil Prices Still Above Rp14,000

The government officially reopens exports of crude palm oil ( CPO ) starting tomorrow, Monday (23/5/2022). However, the price cooking oil was observed to be above the highest retail price (HET) of Rp. 14,000 per liter or Rp. 15,500 per kilogram (kg).

Based on the Market Monitoring System and Basic Needs of the Ministry of Trade on Sunday (22/5/2022), the price of bulk cooking oil was still at IDR 17,000 per liter.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed that the reason for the opening of the CPO export faucet was because the price of cooking oil had fallen in the market. According to him, before the export ban, the price of bulk imports was in the range of Rp. 19,800/liter.

"(However) after the export ban, the national average price fell to Rp 17,200 to Rp 17,600," Jokowi said in a virtual press statement, Thursday (19/5/2022).

However, the Indonesian Market Traders Association (IKAPPI) notes that bulk migration is not abundant enough in traditional markets, so the price is still in the range of 18,000/liter and some are even 19,000/liter.

"IKAPPI asks the technical ministry to find the right formulation so that distribution can run well and there is an abundance of cooking oil in the market," said IKAPPI Secretary General Reynald Sarijowan, Sunday (22/5/2022). 

Based on data from the Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the average bulk cooking oil price was IDR 18,900 per kg on Sunday (22/5/2022). This price has decreased from the price at the time of export restrictions on April 28, 2022, which was Rp. 21,300 per kg.

The cheapest bulk cooking oil price is in the province of Banten. The price is IDR 16,700 per kilogram, while the most expensive in DKI Jakarta is IDR 20,650 per kilogram. Then in West Java, DI Yogyakarta, and East Java, the prices were Rp. 19,050, Rp. 16,750, and Rp. 17,000 per kilogram, respectively.

Meanwhile, the most expensive bulk cooking oil is in Papua province, the price reaches Rp. 29,250 per kilogram, while the price of bulk cooking oil in Bengkulu province reaches Rp. 14,000 per kilogram, to be exact, Rp. 14,250 per kilogram, making it the cheapest in Indonesia.
