The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has detected an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 in the Pacitan area of East Java Province on January 9, 2023.
According to the BMKG, the earthquake that rocked the area was located 90 km southeast of Pacitan Regency, East Java.

According to the BMKG website, the earthquake took place at the coordinates of 8.99 south latitude and 111.16 east longitude.
The location of the earthquake was 90 km southeast of Pacitan, East Java, at a depth of 10 km.
The Pacitan earthquake was also felt in the Jogonalan area, Klaten, Central Java.
Previously, on 03 Jan 2023 the BMKG also recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2, at 19:55 WIT.
The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 occurred at coordinates 2.27 South Latitude 140.65 East Longitude.
The location of the earthquake was 33 kilometers to the northeast of Jayapura City, Papua, at a depth of 10 km.
Another earthquake also took place on January 3, 2023, at 16:32 WIT in Kaimana, West Papua.
BMKG noted that the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 came from a depth of 10 km and 68 km southwest of Kaimana, Papua.
