Formula E unveiled the design and specifications of its new Gen3 car at Monaco's Yacht Club to celebrate the upcoming new era of the all-electric single-seater series.

The new Gen3 car was revealed with a fighter-jet-inspired design, while behind the bodywork there are plenty of details about the new car's capabilities as new technology arrives.

Gen3 marks the third generation of Formula E racing cars, following the original Gen1 cars (2014-2017) and its successor Gen2 (2018-2022).

Formula E CEO Jamie Reigle said, "The launch of the Gen3 Formula E car marks the presence of a benchmark for performance, efficiency and sustainability without compromise.

"Together with the FIA, we are proud to showcase Gen3 to Formula E fans, and show the wider sports industry how elite sport, high performance and sustainability can successfully co-exist in the Formula E World Championship," said Reigle. .com, Saturday (04/06/2022).

Simply put, each generation has increased the speed of Formula E cars through technological advances used in powertrains and batteries.

The Gen1 car reached a maximum power output of 200kW before, the Gen2 moved it to a maximum power output of 250kW.

The Gen3 will produce a total of 600kW of power between the new drive motor at the rear axle, producing 350kW, and the standard 250kW motor mounted at the front.

Technological developments are also taking place in many other areas of the automobile as power and energy increases, with the Gen3 era marking a major advantage over the incremental improvements found through automobile development.

The Gen3 will produce a combined power output of 600kW (350kW rear axle motor, 250kW front standard motor) will be capable of over 200mph (321.87km/h).

Despite the increased power and speed, more than 40 percent of the energy will be generated by regenerative braking, an increase from the 25 percent achieved by Gen2 cars. Batteries will also be recycled at the end of their useful life.

The Gen3 car weighs 60kg lighter than its predecessor, largely through the release of the rear brake and a smaller battery size. The car will also be smaller to make it more suitable for racing on street circuits.

This Gen3 Formula E car also carries an environmentally friendly concept by providing recyclable batteries, recycled carbon fiber from Gen2 cars, natural rubber and recycled fiber in Hankook's new tires (when the company took over from Michelin) all of which will be displayed at Gen3 as part of the natural carbon targets and sustainability drive of Formula E.

Formula E predicts Gen3 cars will be able to reach 200mph (321.87km/h). However given the race track of this series, reaching top speed is not possible during track action as it is usually a short straight. But overall speed and acceleration, and therefore lap times, are set to be much faster.

Gen3 cars will make their competitive Formula E debut from the start of the 2022-2023 season, which is expected to kick off next January in Saudi Arabia. Formula E manufacturers will receive Gen3 car kits from June 2022, before starting testing and testing with new-spec cars.

For information, Formula E is being held in Ancol, Jakarta today, Saturday (04/06/2022).
