Navya Arma Autonomous Mini Litrik Bus in BSD, Apparently Still Need Bus Crew. Suitable for IKN?

The presence of two crew members is tasked with maneuvering when the Navya self-driving mini-bus meets people or cars at close range.

Head of the IKN Authority, Bambang Susantono, said that autonomous vehicles will be the backbone of public transportation at IKN. At the same time, Sinar Mas Land in collaboration with Mitsubishi Corporation launched a self-driving electric bus yesterday, Friday (20/5/2022).

Autonomous vehicles will be an important part of IKN Nusantara. That is why the electric bus trial in BSD, South Tangerang is predicted to be the government's model for the transportation pattern at IKN.

The Newbie tries to experience being a Navya passenger, Saturday (21/5/2022). This vehicle is only available at Q Big BSD City, South Tangerang. This mini electric bus route just goes around the mall.

The first thing to do in order to get on the bus is to install the OneSmile application to get a barcode that is used as a ticket.

After that come to the shuttle bus . The clerk will scan the barcode . Then, just wait for the arrival of the vehicle.

The electric vehicle has dimensions of 4.7 x 2.1 meters with a passenger capacity of 15 people. The formation sits as many as 11 people, and 4 passengers stand.

However, this amount is not all for passengers. There is one operator and guard, a total of only 13 people.

Operators are still needed because they are still in the testing phase. This is to prevent something unwanted.

For example, when passing people or cars approaching within a radius of three meters, the bus will activate the sensor. In fact, the bus can stop suddenly.

At that time, the role of the bus crew was needed. The bus operator will divert the programmed route on the Navya route.

Even this trial was carried out in a shopping center environment. Not infrequently, many people or passing by. Uniquely for maneuvering outside the program, the operator controls it through a control box called Xbox.

Another obstacle is if the bus is forced to face a lower bar than the bus roof. The system will detect, and will automatically stop.

In terms of how to drive, this self-driving electric bus is quite comfortable. Acceleration does not stomp, even when turning maneuvers are very smooth.

Unfortunately, Navya often brakes suddenly, because of the presence of obstacles that come suddenly. Therefore, officers requested that passengers use seat belts.

One of the passengers who felt the electric bus was Risma. He said that he was quite happy with the sensation of riding an autonomous electric bus.

He is optimistic that electric buses can be used for big cities where the understanding and application of traffic signs is fully complied with.

"However, if you really want to use it in IKN which will create a new city and the community must follow the existing rules, I'm sure you can. Japan and other developed countries can do it, we can definitely do it," he said after boarding the electric bus, Saturday (21/5/2022).

Previously, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi continued to encourage the private sector to start using autonomous vehicles. He expressed this at the Inauguration ceremony, Friday (20/5) at BSD City, Tangerang, Banten.

"I am proud that the private sector has played an active role in supporting the government's efforts to present this future vehicle in Indonesia. This smart transportation system is an inevitability that will happen," he was quoted as saying in a press statement.
