Using the term NFT or 'Play to Earn' in today's video games, is causing a reaction of resistance from gamers .
This is of course based on the fear of gamers towards developers who are only focused on the blockchain itself, rather than making a game that is interesting in terms fundamentals , such as stories, combat mechanics , gameplay , or maybe graphics.
This is what happened to Ubisoft, which implemented the NFT system in one of its games, Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The result? The Quartz program (NFT from Ubisoft) was a total failure where it turned out to only generate 396 dollars.
But of course there will be at least one developer or publisher who insists on implementing this new system into the game, yep, this is Square Enix, which is one of the publishers who still have hope for blockchain .
Square Enix still wants to make games with blockchain, so that the content in the game can be continuously updated by players
We got this through interview Yosuke Matsuda, the president of Square Enix from Yahoo Japan .
Matsuda stated that simply focusing on the traditional way of a game was 'not enough' to advance the company itself. Until now, they (SE) have only provided gamers a game that has been developed and gamers can immediately play the content.
Matsuda hopes that with blockchain , gamers be able to participate in filling content in their own way, so that content for a game will always be filled and not have to rely on developers .
Later, for gamers who have contributed to filling in the content in the game, they will provide an incentive through blockchain . Currently, Matsuda has not provided a definite form of what will be given to gamers who fill in the content.
Square Enix hopes that in the future NFT can become a trend in video games
Oh yes, previously, Square Enix had actually stated that they wanted to 'embrace' in NFT through a happy new year greeting from their website. The goal is actually the same, which is to facilitate gamers who want to contribute to the game.
What do you think? Do you agree with Square Enix's statement that later gamers can become contributors to the game through the blockchain system? Or still have a strong sense of resistance to systems that are fairly new in today's video game industry? Give your opinion.
