Director James Cameron admitted that he spent a year writing the screenplay for Avatar 2 which was later discarded.
Sutradara James Cameron mengaku bahwa dirinya pernah menghabiskan satu tahun untuk menulis skenario Avatar 2 yang kemudian dibuang. |
After completion, Cameron actually threw out the scenario because it was considered not in accordance with the epic story of the previous film.
"When I sat down with the writers to start writing Avatar 2, I said we can't start the next story until we understand why the first film was so good," James Cameron told The Times UK, as reported by Variety on Thursday ( 22/9).
"We have to first decode what happened," he added.
Cameron then came to a conclusion that the work on the screenplay for Avatar was on a different story level. This also applies to all films.
"All films are done on a different level. The first is the surface, which is the character, the problem, and the resolution," explained Cameron.
"The second is thematic. What is this film trying to convey? However, Avatar also applies to the third level, namely the subconscious," he added.
When Cameron and his team began designing the scenario, he realized that the prepared scenario was futile.
"I wrote the whole script for this sequel, read it, and then realized it didn't even get to level three. Boom. We started over again. It took a year," Cameron said.
It took almost 13 years for James Cameron to deliver a sequel. Cameron is now ready to welcome Avatar: The Way of the Water, which will premiere globally in December 2022.
In a different interview, Cameron told IGN that viewers won't be able to predict the next Avatar story.
"I guarantee you, you won't be able to predict it. What people hate the most is going to the cinema and then saying 'Oh, this is a guess,'" Cameron told IGN .
"This later will be unpredictable in my opinion. I challenge anyone to predict where the story will go," he concluded.
James Cameron will return to fill the director's chair for Avatar: The Way of Water. He also filled the producer's chair with Jon Landau.
Not only that, Cameron also helped write the script with Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno.
This sequel film also stars the cast of its predecessor, namely Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana who voices Jake Sully and Neytiri.
In addition to the two, Avatar: The Way of Water is also played by Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, to Michelle Yeoh.
