Uptake of New Cars Throughout 2022 Soars 30.43 Percent

Based on records from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), the total domestic sales of new cars in April were 82,877 units.

Car sales before Eid fell even though the government had allowed people to go home. But so far this year is better than 2021.

Based on records from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), total domestic sales in April were 82,877 units.

The realization fell 15.89 percent from the previous month. In March, total domestic sales were 98,544 units.

Even though sales in April 2022 fell on a monthly basis (month to month/mtm), it was still better than last year (year to year/yty). Sales in 2021 will be 78,908 units. This means that there is an increase of 5.02 percent.

If seen throughout the year to April (year to date/ytd), sales in 2022 will be 346,849 units. The realization jumped significantly from the same period last year, which was 30.43 percent (265,934 units).

The decline in car sales ahead of Eid had been predicted in advance. General Secretary of Gaikindo Kukuh Kumara said that this was due to the limited number of working days.

“The indication is that the working days are shorter because there are many holidays. Until now the data has not been entered," he told The Newbie on Wednesday (11/5/2022).

This year's sales in ytd basis compared to last year's even better. Kukuh explained that Gaikindo also predicts sales in May to decline.

Eid resulted in reduced working days. The reduction will definitely have an impact on sales. He also said this always happens every year because there will be an increase, a decrease, after which it stabilizes.

"Surely most consumers spend money at the time of Eid or the beginning of Ramadan so that by Lebaran they have used a new car. Where is the pause after Lebaran," he explained.
