The scarcity of supply of chips or semiconductors in new cars makes people switch to buying used cars.
Used car noted that sales of used four-wheeled vehicles this year grew compared to last year. Sales performance is also believed to grow in double digits this year.
Mobil88 Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sutadi said that his company's sales from January to April increased 13 percent compared to the same period last year.
"In full year 2022, we predict there will be an increase of 10 percent to 15 percent compared to 2021," he said when contacted on Sunday (29/5/2022).
Sutadi explained that one of the reasons for this optimism was the influence of manufacturers who had difficulty producing new cars due to the scarcity of microchips or semiconductors. In fact, the economy is recovering which causes a demand for vehicles.
"Some customers actually switch to looking for used cars due to operational needs," he explained.
OLX Autos Indonesia's Classified and New Business Director Agung Iskandar explained that the restrictions on community activities that had been relaxed and the spread of Covid-19 could make used car sales more positive.
This has an impact on the proliferation of national and international events, including car shows. Then, plus school children who are already allowed to meet face-to-face, the need for cars is even greater.
At OLX Auto, people who buy vehicles during Ramadan this year grew by 30 percent compared to the same period last year. This achievement, added Agung, is almost close to the era before the pandemic.
In 2019, the demand for used cars grew 35 percent. A year later when Covid-19 hit Indonesia, purchases fell between 4 percent and 10 percent.

The demand for used cars at OLX Autos during Ramadan started to grow after that. In 2021 it's up 10 percent and this year it's 30 percent.
“Hopefully the economy or business will be even bigger. Of course, the automotive industry gets a positive effect," he explained.
Likewise, the owner of Jordy Mobil at Mega Glogok Kemayoran Andi explained that the public's high interest in used cars can be seen from the location, which has tripled this year. This is what makes him optimistic regarding the prospect of used cars this year. Many people want to replace a new vehicle.
“Because they think that buying a new car is already high. Second, most new cars pivot because of the chip. They have a choice of used cars and are looking for a younger year," he explained.
