Sales of Electric Cars in the First Quarter of 2022 Even Dropped, Ioniq & Kona Lead BEV


Total wholesale the first quarter of 2022 for electric technology cars include battery electric vehicles (BEV), hybrids, plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), as many as 734 units, down 37 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021 with a total of 734 units. sales of 1,666 units.

In January 2022 sales of this electric car reached 149 units with the dominance of the Nissan Kicks Hybrid, in February 2022 sales rose to 357 units with the dominance of the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. Meanwhile, in March sales fell back to 228 units with the Corolla Cross Hybrid being dominated again.

BEV sales in the first quarter of 2022 were dominated by Hyundai Ioniq Signature with total sales of 24 units and PHEV by Mitsubishi Outlander with sales of 10 units. 

The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid also dominated sales in the first quarter of 2021 with total three-month sales of 608 units from 1,166 units. EV sales in quarter 1/2021 were dominated by Hyundai Kona with a total of 124 units.

Car sales in the first quarter of 2022 showed an increase in both wholesale and retail. Wholesale sales in the first quarter of 2022 rose 41 percent year on year (yoy) to 263,822 units and retail increased to 238,377 units or 34 percent yoy from the previous 178,452 units.

Based on data from the Association of Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), wholesale sales in March increased when compared to last year's achievement of 98,536 units, up 16 percent yoy. Retail sales also experienced the same increase, namely 16 percent yoy to 89,821 units from the previous 77,514. 

Retail sales in March also increased 28 percent month to month (mtm) to 89,821, where in February sales were at 69,989 units.
