How to find out the password has been hacked and solve it

The password is caught or someone has broken into it, of course you don't want this to happen, do you? Then what is the solution if the password has already been found out, does it directly affect account security? The answer is relative, it all depends on how you create a password, store it and use it with the associated account. Now considering the importance of passwords, in this article I will discuss about passwords and account security .

Recently there have been many cases of theft and password breaches. Do you still remember the "data breach" or Tokopedia data breach? Although Toped claims that user passwords are protected, but in reality no one can guarantee that. Especially if the run is "internal" abuse or from certain parties who want to take advantage of our data. The same thing happened to Google though, about 5 million users' passwords were breached in early 2020. Wow, that's terrible, I hope that doesn't happen to us huh…

In the digital world the value of data is very valuable. For example, credential data (username & password) in a marketplace / bank account where you store balances / savings for shopping. If your data is discovered, hackers can drain your savings freely. So don't underestimate passwords, because passwords are the initial protector of your data and account security.

Characteristics of Your Password / Password Found

How to find out if your password has been found or not? Well, there is no definite way to do that, unless someone sends an email and then blackmails or threatens because he knows your password. Like me, I've experienced that but remember don't reply or comply with his requests, it's definitely blackmail. But if you're browsing on Chrome then you find an image like this. So be careful it is a feature of the password caught and change your password immediately.

Around the end of 2019, or to be precise, version 79 of the Google Chrome browser. In this new browser, a password notification if your password is found out. Suppose you are logged into an account, then after that a display like the image above appears. That means that the username and password that you use have been entered in the data that was uprooted.

In this latest Google Chrome browser, the username and password you use will be stored in encrypted data. This data will only be “known” to Chrome, no one even knows Google. Later if your data is included in the data that is exposed / exposed, Chrome will check the data and give a warning. So immediately update the latest chrome (here), if the password is already exposed then immediately replace your password with a new and safe one.

Changing Account Passwords That Are Known at Once

With the Chrome password notification feature above, you can find out which accounts have been caught.

Chrome will check the saved usernames and passwords, then display which accounts need to be changed credentials.

  1. In the first image above click "Check passwords".
  2. Then after that will appear the second image above. Or if you want to check whether your password is safe or not, go to Settings in Chrome => Autofill => passwords.
  3. Select it and click “Check passwords”.
  4. The “Compromised passwords” section shows the accounts and passwords that need to be changed.
  5. To find out the passwords stored in chrome, click the three dots and "Show Password". This method can also be used to find out the password of people who log in from your computer or if you forget it, use it wisely.
  6. Finally click "Change password" and change it immediately according to each account.

Create a Strong Password to Secure Account

The password is just an ordinary string of letters. The password may have a special meaning to the user, but it should be something that only the person knows. But even though it is confidential, if the password is a "word so" then even then it is not safe. To create a strong and secure password you can use special characters or a password generator.

1. Use Special Characters in Password

Special characters are special symbols or certain punctuation marks. And what is used in the password is not all signs, but only certain characters such as:

! @ # $ % ^ &*
Example in password:
k@ta$@nd!

If you have a cute character from a ping pong ball made by me, you can show it off , look here , hehe...

2. Combine Letter and Number Combinations

A mixture of letters and numbers can also be an alternative to a strong password, for example:

Example passwords:

k47a5and1

3. Use Uppercase and Lowercase Letters

So that the password is easy to remember, you can just use ordinary words. But use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters.

Example passwords:
KaTaSaNdI

4. Minimum Number of Password Characters 6

The average minimum number of characters in a password is 6 digits. That is the standard, Google itself limits it to a minimum of 8 characters. However, the longer the password the better.

Example passwords:
katasandipassword

5. Combine All Safe Password Criteria

The most secure is to combine all the criteria for writing a secure password above. This means that the password consists of special characters, capital and lowercase letters, there are numbers and the number is long.

Example passwords:
k@74$@nd!un1k

6. Take advantage of the Password Generator

If you want a really strong password, you can use a password generator tool. Usually passwords don't consist of "finished words" but really a random mix of letters, numbers and special characters. There are many free password generator tools, some of which are:

Bitwarden Password Generator

If you use a password generator, make sure to take note of it. Since it's almost impossible to remember a password, the characters must be very complicated.

Application Save Password on Android

Another solution to create strong passwords is to use a password manager application. This application has the main function of storing passwords, password generators, to autofill. The advantage is that the passwords stored in the application are encrypted, only your Android device can access them. Even the developer can't open it, even guessing. One of the best password generator apps is:

Bitwarden – Password Manager

Bitwarden uses AES-256 bit encryption, hash salt, and PBKDF2 SHA-256 which makes passwords difficult to crack. Other options for similar applications are: Google Smart Lock, Password Safe, Keeper, Keepass2Android, LastPass, Dashlane, Enpass or 1Password and aWallet.

Use Password Manager Application on PC

There are many password manager software for your computer. Call it KeePass, LogMeOnce, LastPass, Roboform, Symantec Norton Identity Safe, True Key, Dashlane, or Sticky Password. But one that caught my attention was Passbox.

Passbox is a bit different from the others, the application is small and portable so you don't need to install it. Supports multiple databases, meaning you can classify passwords according to account categories. In addition it has a unique password generator. And what I like most is that Passbox runs offline, meaning it is not connected to the internet. So it is more secure and sufficient to meet the needs of password storage. Please download and read how to use Passbox in the Passbox Application Review . Thanks for reading and I hope it's helpful...
