What is the Law of Saying Merry Christmas in Islam?

Ahead of the Christmas celebrations , the debate on the law of wishing Christmas in Islam is much talked about. Some say it is allowed, but not a few scholars forbid it.

In fact, not a few people who accuse Muslims of wishing me a merry Christmas are infidels. So, what is the ruling on saying Merry Christmas in Islam?

The Law of Saying Merry Christmas

According to NU Online , there is not a single verse in the Qur'an and hadith that explains clearly and firmly about the forbidden law or that it is allowed to wish Merry Christmas.

Therefore, the scholars who forbid or allow Christmas greetings adhere to the generality or generality of verses or present that they believe are related to the law of Christmas greetings.

It's Haram to Say Merry Christmas

Some scholars, such as Sheikh Bin Baz, Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, Sheikh Ibrahim bin Ja'far, Sheikh Ja'far At-Thalhawi and so on state that the law of wishing Merry Christmas made by a Muslim to people who remind him is Haram.

They refer to Surat Al-Furqan verse 72 which means, " And those who do not bear false testimony, and when they meet (those) who do useless deeds, they pass (only) with honor himself ".

Referring to the verse, the scholars believe that a Mulim who wished Merry Christmas had given false testimony and justified the beliefs of Christians about Christmas. Until he will not get high dignity in heaven.

In addition, the scholars who forbid the law to wish Merry Christmas refer to the hadith narrated by Ibn Umar which means " Whoever resembles a race then he belongs to that race ". (HR. Abu Daud, number 4031)

The Law Can Wish Merry Christmas

As for some scholars who allow the law to wish Merry Christmas , they refer to Surat Al Mumtahanah verse 8 which means as follows:

" Allah does not forbid you to do good and be just to those who do not fight you because of religion and (also) do not drive you from your land. Indeed, Allah loves those who are just ."

In that verse, Allah does not forbid Muslims to do good to anyone who does not expel them from their country. Meanwhile, wishing Merry Christmas is one of the forms of doing good to Christians who do not expel it.

The existence of different views regarding the law of wishing me a Merry Christmas should be addressed wisely. Differences that exist should not cause conflict and division.

Problems regarding the law of wishing Merry Christmas fall into the category of ijtihadi problems that occur, the rules of problems that are still temporary, problems that have been agreed upon can be rejected, problems that have been agreed upon can be rejected.

Therefore, there should not be certain parties who claim that their opinion is the most correct and other opinions are wrong. We should both respect each other's choices without having to force others to agree with us.

That's an explanation of the law saying Merry Christmas . Hope it is useful!
